2016-2017 Outstanding Scholars
Marrisa Cox
Marrisa Ann Cox is graduating valedictorian of her class, with a 4.060 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Science National Honor Society. While at FHS, she was the Student Council President and received the Outstanding Leader Award. Marrisa plans on majoring in biomedical science at Grand Valley State University, where she was granted the Award of Distinction Faculty Scholarship, the Award for Excellence, and the Owen F. Bieber Scholarship. Marrisa also received the Genesee County Association of School Board Members Scholarship, the Roberta Reed McWilliams Endowment Fund Scholarship, and Flint Metro League Scholarship. She is the daughter of Edward and Donna Cox.
Myles Siglin
Myles Loren Siglin, II is the son of Kris and Rick Rider and Myles Siglin, I. Graduating with a 4.049 GPA, Myles plans to study engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the Science National Honor Society. Myles is President, as well as an Honor Thespian, of the International Thespian Society. Myles has had perfect attendance all through high school. He made Flint Metro League All Academic First Team. Along with his teammates, Myles took 4th place in the State Quiz Bowl Competition. Myles was awarded the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor HAIL Scholarship.
Andrew Todd
Andrew James Todd has a 4.044 GPA and will be attending Olivet College, majoring in insurance and risk management. He was awarded the Olivet College Global Citizen’s Honor Program Highest Honor Scholarship, Olivet College Board of Trustee’s Scholarship, Pioneer State Mutual Insurance Company Merit Scholarship, and Frederick & Evelyn Fountain Scholarship Award. Andrew is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, and the National Technical Honor Society. He has earned the Associate in General Insurance Designation. He is the son of Peggy Todd and Gary Stein.
Leighton Chappell
Leighton James Chappell is the son of Scott and Trina Chappell. He will graduate with a 4.043 GPA. Leighton was awarded the Chancellor Scholarship and the Gooch Academic Scholarship at the University of Tennessee, Martin, where he plans to study sports management. Leighton also received the John F. and Edith L. Wilsterman Trust Scholarship, the Edgar L. Cornwell Scholarship, and the Carol Jekel Scholarship. While at FHS, Leighton has been a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. This year, he and his Flushing Varsity Basketball teammates won the District Championship.
Ethan Dupuis
Ethan Jared Dupuis will attend Oakland University to pursue a degree in biology. At FHS, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Science National Honor Society. Ethan received the Oakland University Distinguished Scholar Award, as well as the Geographic Region Award. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Blazer. Ethan is also an Eagle Scout, and will graduate with a 4.034 GPA. Ethan is the son of Philip Dupuis and Rebekah Emmerling-Dupuis.
Steward Manges
Stewart Thomas Manges, graduating with a 4.030 GPA, will attend Olivet College to earn a degree in insurance and risk management. He is the son of Dave and Sherry Manges. Stewart is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Technical Honor Society. He received the Olivet College Global Citizen’s Honor Program Highest Honor Scholarship, the Board of Trustee’s Scholarship, and the Pioneer State Mutual Insurance Company Risk Management and Insurance Merit Scholarship. Stewart has also received the Associate in General Insurance Designation.
Logan Willette
Logan Rae Willette will attend Michigan State University this fall with a goal of studying kinesiology. With a 4.028 GPA, Logan is a member of the National Honor Society. Logan has been recognized as a Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete and was named to the All State Academic First Team for Varsity Volleyball. She received her varsity letter in soccer and volleyball. Logan is the daughter of Richard and Tina Willette.
Morgan Raup
Morgan Lizabeth Raup will attend Oakland University in the fall. She is the daughter of Kyle Raup and Kimberly Raup. Morgan was chosen the Most Valuable Defender for Varsity Soccer. She lettered in Varsity Basketball, Varsity Soccer, and is a Scholar Athlete. She has been granted the Oakland University Presidential Scholarship and the Geographic Region Award. She is graduating with a 4.027 GPA.
Nicholas Warren
Nicholas Ronald Warren is a member of the National Honor Society and will graduate with a 4.027 GPA. He will attend the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he has been awarded the HAIL Scholarship. Nicholas plans to study music technology and sound engineering. Nicholas has also received the Stephen T. Phillips Memorial Scholarship, the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship, and the Greater Flint Bowling Proprietors Association Scholarship. While at FHS, Nicholas was the head Drum Major of the Marching Band and was named to the All State Academic First Team for Bowling. He is the son of Edward and Tamala Warren.
Lindsey Miller
Lindsey Kristyne Miller is graduating with a 4.023 GPA. She plans to study molecular biology and biotechnology at the University of Michigan, Flint. Lindsey is the daughter of Edward and Kristy Miller. While at FHS, Lindsey was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Science National Honor Society. Lindsey was also the Safety Captain on FIRST Robotics Team 468. Lindsey was awarded the University of Michigan, Flint Freshman Merit Scholarship as well as the Honors Scholarship.
Justin Cotton
Justin Orion Cotton is graduating with a 4.018 GPA. He will attend Harvard College to study molecular and cellular biology. Justin is the son of Glenn and Latoya Cotton. He was awarded the Harvard College Faculty Scholarship. Justin is also a three time Powerlifting State Champion, and was named to the All State Academic Second Team for Football. Justin is also a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Science National Honor Society.
Amanda Jaster
Amanda Susan Jaster, the daughter of Robert and Susan Jaster, is graduating with a 4.018 GPA. Amanda plans on studying nursing at the University of Michigan, Flint, where she has received the HAIL Scholarship. She has also received the Flushing Lions Club Scholarship. Amanda received a I at this year’s Vocal Solo and Ensemble Competition. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Samantha Yancho
Samantha Marie Yancho is planning to attend Oakland University, where she will study nursing. Samantha will graduate with a 4.017 GPA and has received the Outstanding Youth Award as well as Academic All State. Samantha received the Distinguished Scholar Award and the Geographic Region Award from Oakland University, as well as the Robert Reed McWilliams Endowment Fund Scholarship, and the John F. and Edith L. Wilsterman Endowment Trust Scholarship. Samantha is the daughter of Kris and Jim Yancho.
Samantha Holmes
Samantha Lynn Holmes is the daughter of Tina Holmes and Michael Holmes. Samantha will attend Michigan State University in the fall where she will study human biology. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the Science National Honor Society. Samantha will graduate with a 4.013 GPA and has received the Flushing High School Alumni Association Scholarship and the John F. and Edith L. Wilsterman Scholarship Trust Scholarship. While at FHS, Samantha was also recognized as a Scholar Athlete all four years.
Carson Wilson
Carson AnnMarie Wilson will attend Wayne State University this fall, studying nutrition and dietetics. Carson received the Wayne State University Gold Scholarship, Elaine and Marion Rumsey Scholarship, and the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Scholarship. With a 4.013 GPA, Carson is a member of the National Honor Society. Carson was a member of the 2017 Class A State Championship Basketball Team. She was also the Captain of the Varsity Basketball and Varsity Soccer Teams. Carson is the daughter of James Wilson and Caron Wilson.
Adam Salomon
Adam John Salomon is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and was a Business Professionals of America State Qualifier. Adam will graduate with a 4.006 GPA. Adam plans to attend Michigan State University where he will study finance. While at FHS, Adam was a Scholar Athlete, as well as a Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete. He was part of the District Champion Flushing Varsity Basketball Team. Adam was also named to the 2017 Flint Metro League Second Team. Adam is the son of Raj and Susan Salomon.
Julia Ishak
Julia Amjad Ishak is the daughter of Amjad and Elham Ishak. Julia is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, and will graduate with a 4.004 GPA. Julia plans to attend the University of Michigan, Flint where she will study biology. While at FHS, Julia has been named Student of the Month, WBL (unpaid learner) of the Month, Scholar Athlete, and has held the position of Secretary of both the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She has also been involved in Student Council and the Student Leadership Organization.
